Anzac Day

On Tuesday Hokowhitu School honoured Anzac Day in their own ceremony in front of the flag pole. 

Students read 'Flanders Field', there was a wreath laying ceremoney, The Ode, one minutes silence and the singing of the National Anthem. 

 

Wildboy

Today we have Brando 'Wildboy' come and speak to the students of Hokowhitu School. He talked to the children about his journey of walking around New Zealand using the coastline. It was great to hear him talk about resilience and working through the little goals to get to the big goals.

He then took 16 children to participate in a variety of activities after morning tea.

For every student in TKA that writes about something they learnt from his talk they will get a STRIVE voucher.

  

Buddy Time

Rimu is so lucky to have Ruma Rua as our buddy class. Today we spent time together listening to each other read. We showed patience and perseverance as we read and helped each other with the words. Ka pai Ruma Rua. You guys are great readers!

Maths

Today, we had children working in their teams today to solve the following Maths problem.

It was wonderful hearing all of the different conversations the children were having trying to solve the problem.  Now it is your turn to show us your answer and how you got it.

 

Discovery Time

This afternoon the students were busy with the business of playing! This is such an important learning time for all ages. While they are playing the children are learning to: be creative, share, cooperate, extend their vocabulary, fit things together, experiment with a range of materials, be part of a group, use manners, be respectful of others and property, follow rules.... and the list goes on!!

Year 3/4 Swimming Sports

Today the weather held up for our Swimming Sports! It's lucky that the solar heating is up and running! Congratulations to everyone who had a go with a positive attitude. And well done to our place getters. You will get your certificates in the next few weeks.

Girls Football

Last Tuesday our young ladies got to have a go at some football skills with Jess. They had a great time on the muddy field and ended with a game. Well done to all the ladies who joined in!
